Stop the Crime & Policing Bill

The Government’s new Crime & Policing Bill clamps down on the right to protest even further and continues the criminalisation of poverty.

Why we need to take action:

We need to protect the right to protest safely

  • Labour's Crime & Policing Bill threatens to ban face coverings at protests.
  • Everyone must be able to speak out on important issues, and face coverings enable us all to do this safely, without fear of negative consequences for ourselves and our loved ones.

  • We must oppose anti-protest laws that silence us, protect the powerful and prevent meaningful change.

We need to stop the criminalisation of poverty

  • For years, governments, police and local authorities have punished people struggling to make ends meet.
  • The Crime and Policing Bill proposes new ‘Respect Orders’ which will be used to criminalise poverty-related behaviours such as begging - with harsh penalities including fines and imprisonment if an Order is breached.
  • It is cruel and illogical to punish people out of poverty.
